Where are we all headed
Along our various roads,
Swept up in tiny acts
Under our heavy loads?
We scarcely take the time
To reach out for each other.
Instead we build up walls
And close out our brothers.
A handful remain to the end;
Few linger through the years;
We cast them off uncaring
And they shed any tears.
A new group crowds in daily;
A laugh, a song, a drink;
We bury love in the moment.
Who needs a lasting link?
Where is the bond that endures;
A love that does not fade?
It's put aside for the future,
But somehow is mislaid.
Let's you and I be friends.
Some of your time I'll borrow.
Then you and I together
Won't face an empty tomorrow.
